Molotov cocktails thrown at the Brethren Church in Nazareth
Molotov cocktails thrown at the Brethren Church in Nazareth Four Molotov cocktails ("burning bottles") were thrown to the exterior walls and roof of the Plymouth Brethren Church that is located on the upper floor of the building that Emmaus Bible school offices are in. The mentioned cocktails were found by worshippers who came to the Bible study meeting on Friday evening (the 9th of May).It seems that the cocktails had caught fire but no damage was done.

This did not hinder the worshippers from having a meeting of worship and praise and on Saturday morning a complaint was filed in the Nazareth police.

Prior to that ,and on that morning (Friday the 9th of May), the weekly papers of the Arab community in Israel published the amended statement of Emmaus Bible school (concerning the book "who is the greatest?" that compares Jesus to Muhammad and ridicules the latter). This statement opened as follows: "First of all ,we would like to submit our apology to all our Muslim brothers for the hurt that resulted from the mentioned booklet that was found at our institution without our knowledge of its content and was distributed without our purpose. We love you ,and therefore we reject any wrong doing that might hurt your faith and feelings".

This statement did not stop the verbal attacks by several Christian and Muslim clergy.

The Anglican bishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East Riah Abu-Alassal issued a statement emphasizing that the Anglican Church had no relation whatsoever to Emmaus Bible school and stating that "we reject these attempts that are conspired by suspicious groups here and there, and we denounce everything that would undermine the personality of one of the giants of human history :the Arabian prophet Muhammad, God's peace be on Him".

The Greek Orthodox archimandrite Dr. Atallah Hannah also issued a joint statement with the head of the Islamic religious appeal court in Israel judge Ahmad Nattor denouncing the book and calling it "a poisoned pamphlet assaulting the position of the great messenger of God".

"Come and see" editor notes that of the Christian clergy or laymen who published statements about this issue , none held a position of restoring the mistaken group or asked the Muslims to forgive them but instead were quick to denounce mr. khalil and Emmaus Bible school and several of them even issued statements compromising the Christian faith to please the Muslims.

From the Muslim Fundamentalist side, the deputy for the head of the Islamic movement in Israel (Sheikh Kamal Khatib from Cana of Galilee) ,continued this week too and despite the apology and clarification of Emmaus Bible school to attack the school, the director mr. George Khalil and all Evangelicals. His attack was fierce both in a full page article in the weekly "As-Sennara" and also in a speech in a special rally that was attended by thousands of supporters on Saturday the 10th of May to celebrate Islam's prophet Muhammad's birthday .Sheikh Khatib called them "carriers of the virus of hatred ,resentment and religious prejudice from the Fundamentalist Evangelical Zionist group..." .

In a special message under the title "update from Nazareth",George Khalil, the director of Emmaus Bible school asked friends all around the world to continue and pray "for our personal protection and of the assembly building. Pray that this incident would not intimidate local believers or discourage them from witnessing. Pray for wisdom for us over the next days and that the Lord may be glorified through it all."
