The Kings Leave Nazareth after 39 years of faithful ministry
The Kings Leave Nazareth after 39 years of faithful ministry When Wayne King accepted Christ as his personal Savior at 8 years of age, he did not know that God is going to use him in ministering for young children in a little town called Nazareth. Wayne grew up in Northern Illinois and attended Briercrest Bible Institute in Saskatchewan, Canada, and graduated in 1959. While there he was introduced to Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), and devoted several summers to teaching CEF 5-Day-Clubs for children. Then he attended the CEF Institute, serving several years of practical work with Zion, Illinois CEF, and completed a one-year study in Jewish-Missions at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Carol Ann King was born and raised near Fisher, Illinois, and was saved when she was 9 years old. She graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois in 1959 and taught elementary school for three years in the Chicago suburban area. During these college and teaching years, she taught CEF Good-News-Clubs for children in the winters, and taught and counseled in CEF children and youth camps in the summers.

Wayne and Carol met while serving in CEF Camp, and were married in 1962. They attended the seven month CEF Missionary Internship near Detroit, Michigan, a training course for missionary workers. They sailed for Israel in May 1964.

During 39 years, they have been affiliated with the inter-denominational faith mission, Child Evangelism Fellowship Inc. with international headquarters in Warrenton, Missouri. The Kings (as well as all the CEF workers) receive their prayer and financial support from churches and individuals who are affiliated with a number of church denominations and fellowships.

During the first two years in Israel, the Kings lived in near Tel Aviv and studied Hebrew. As time went on they felt led to focus their ministry on the Arabs and moved to Nazareth. Nazareth is biggest Arab city within Israel with around 150,000 people within the city and its surroundings.

Wayne and Carol belonged to Nazareth as much as they belonged to CEF. Renate, who is a worker coming from Germany, who used to live besides the Kings in the East Quarter of Nazareth was in the little shops in the neighborhood often heartily welcome with the words ?Surely, you are the daughter of the Kings?? Well, they seem never to have realized that Kings have only sons. But it was clear by their reaction that the Kings were appreciated among the people. In the Bank, people always greeted all CEF people with a warm smile. Wayne, better known as Abu Danny who never left the house without the traditional Arabic head cover didn?t bring only his complete desk in a plastic basket but somewhere hidden between stamps, check books, pens and papers there was also some Arabic coffee and some home made brownies. In this way the rather dry job of money matters became a nice waited upon tradition.

Not only in Nazareth, but throughout the whole area of Galilee people waited for the yearly visit in Christmas time where the Kings would visit and leave them only upon giving a Christian tear-off calendar. These calendars were much appreciated. The Kings joined on each Sunday a different church. Carol, better known as Em Danny was a Bible teacher in various women?s meetings.

CEF workers are trained in all the areas which will equip them to serve more effectively with children in Sunday School, Vacation Bible Schools, Camps, etc, as well as neighborhood clubs in homes, known as Good-News-Clubs or in the summer 5-Day-Clubs. Also, they were involved in translating various Christian Education materials for children to be used in evangelism and discipline.

In May 2003 the CEF-team held a thanksgiving and praise celebration and many friends of the Kings and of CEF came to lift up the Lord?s name upon the King?s 39 years of faithful ministry in Israel. The Kings left Nazareth for a 18-month period of traveling through the United States ? sharing about the Lord?s work through CEF in Israel.

Plans are for Wayne and Carol to retire, possibly in the United States, from the ministry in Israel some time after that deputation in the US. As for the Children?s Evangelical Fellowship of Israel, it will continue as it has through the years, now under the able leadership of Fadi Ramadan. Fadi and his wife Eman are Christian Arabs who accepted the Lord in their young lives, are very gifted, and are giving dynamic leadership to this mission work in Israel. A big number of volunteer teachers are helping in reaching out to the children of the country besides a good number of faithful paid local workers.
